The Tiny Heart: November 2015

Tweed Vest + Plaid Scarf

Mossimo V Neck Sweater, Vest-Target (similar Old Navy Quilted Herringbone Vest for $34.94), Scarf-Forever 21 (similar Nordstrom Plaid Scarf), Old Navy Rockstar Jeans, Boots-Naturalizer, Bag-Botkier

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving! I am still stuffed, 4 days later! I didn't hit the stores on Black Friday since I was at the office instead, but I did do a tiny bit of online shopping. I'm going to check out the Cyber Monday sales today. I definitely prefer shopping online now with the holiday madness at the mall!

Today I'm remixing this tweed vest. I'm pairing it today with a grey sweater and plaid scarf. I've previously worn it with a striped tee and burgundy pants

Watch TV Without the TV

If you've been a reader of my blog, you know that I am a TV junkie! Since I have so many shows that I watch I sometimes fall behind on my episodes. I am super excited to have discovered NBC TVEverywhere! You can now watch NBC shows anywhere, at anytime, without your TV, from your laptop or desktop!

I'll be catching up on episodes of The Voice, which is one of my favorites. I am usually Team Adam, but I do love Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, and Pharell too.  You can watch full episodes of all your favorite NBC shows, like The Blacklist, Heroes Reborn, and Chicago Fire

Plaid + Leopard

Old Navy Classic Plaid Shirt, Necklace-Aliexpress (similar BaubleBar Courtney Bib Necklace), Old Navy Rockstar Jeans, Stevie's Leopard Flats, Bag-H&M (similar Forever 21 White Satchel)

Plaid shirts are staples of my fall wardrobe. I have a closet full of them! This one in all American red, white, and blue is one I've been reaching for a lot. Today I styled it with another favorite pattern, leopard, for a fun mix of prints.

PS Check out my Instagram to see what I'm wearing for Thanksgiving! Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday with family and eats their weight in food!

Adult Coloring Book Wall Art

While the holidays are fun, they can also be super stressful with figuring out what gifts to get, coordinating schedules to see family,  and picking out holiday outfits for the umpteenth holiday party. During all the craziness, my introvert self needs a little time alone to unwind! I decided to get an adult coloring book since they are very popular right now for relaxation. Hallmark had a whole section of adult coloring books making it hard to choose. They also had a bunch of crayons and color pencils to go with the books.

I picked these mechanical pencils since they bring back memories of elementary school and they're in a cute carrying case. Once I started coloring, I understood why everyone loves these adult coloring books. Since I was too busy focusing on what colors to pick, I wasn't stressing about anything.

Here is my finished page from the coloring book:

All of the pages in the Hallmark adult coloring books are perforated so you can rip them out. I decided to frame mine to turn it into wall art. I selected a simple silver frame to not detract from the colorful piece.

Here's a video tutorial as well:

Brown Faux Fur Vest

Old Navy Perfect Fitted Tee, Vest-Target Girls (similar Romwe Faux Fur Vest), Necklace-eBay (same Gold Tassel Necklace), H&M Pants, Boots-Nordstrom (similar Steve Madden Intyce Boots)

I already have two faux fur vests, so I didn't exactly need a third. But I really loved the color of this one and justified it since it's a nice neutral that will go with everything. I got it from Target's girls section which is a treasure trove of items on the cheap. This vest was just $24.99! I styled it with a basic white tee, gold tassel necklace, and olive skinnies.

Black and Green Blanket Scarf

Old Navy Perfect Fitted Tee, Scarf-Aliexpress (same Natasha Couture Plaid Blanket Scarf), Old Navy Rockstar Jeans, Boots-Naturalizer, Bag-Botkier

It's blanket scarf season! Not only are they super warm, but they make a simple outfit stylish. I paired this black and green blanket scarf with a basic black tee. A no brainer outfit for when I don't know what to wear!

Q&A: Carly of Dresses And Denim + Michael Kors Handbag Giveaway!

Today I have a Q&A with Carly from Dresses and Denim! Plus she has an amazing giveaway!

Tell us about your blog

Dresses & Denim is pretty much an online scrap book of my life.  I feature my outfits and travels (I have major wanderlust!), show video tutorials on how to achieve beautiful braids and other hairstyles, and share sweet moments with little toddler boy.

When you are not busy blogging, what are you doing?
I spend lots of time enjoying being a mommy, work 2-3 days a week, spend way too much time planning frequent vacations, and I work out 3 days a week.

What is your favorite beauty product?
A bold lipstick.  I like bright pink for the summer and a bold red for the winter.  Right now I’m obsessed with Red-y To Wear by Clinique.

What’s the best piece of fashion advice you have ever gotten?
Shoes and clothing are NOT an investment.  Buy what you like and treat yourself to special pieces occasionally, but don’t be fooled into paying way too much for wardrobe items under the false notion that it’s an investment.

What item in your closet can you not live without?
My favorite black skinny jeans from Express.  I seriously wear them at least 2 days a week.  They go with everything and give a styled look even with a basic tee.

Carly is giving away a beautiful Michael Kors color block bag that is worth $225!  You can enter to win it below.  All entries will be automatically given one entry in to each monthly bag giveaway on and added to the Dresses & Denim weekly mailing list.

Striped Tee + Tweed Vest

Merona Tee, Vest-Target (similar Merona Quilted Vest), H&M Pants, Flats-American Eagle (similar Delman Patent Leather Cap Toe Ballet Flats), Bag-Botkier

Everytime I'm in Target I wind up buying at least one thing that I wasn't looking for. I saw this striped tee and had to have it, especially since it was on sale. It was originally $12 and 25% off, bringing it to just 9 bucks! I am wearing it with a tweed vest, also from Target which is their version of the infamous JCrew vest.

Quilted Vest + Plaid Scarf

Tee-Gap (similar Calson Striped Tee), Vest-Old Navy Girls (similar Shoptiques Navy Puffy Vest), Scarf-Forever 21 (similar World Market Red Plaid Scarf), Old Navy Rockstar Jeans, Bag-Forever Tiff Couture, Boots-Nordstrom (similar Steve Madden Intyce Boots)

This quilted vest is one of my favorite layering pieces for the fall. It's great for those in-between days when it's not too chilly and I can wear the vest in lieu of a coat. (Soon I'll be wearing a witner coat for the next oh, 3-4 months straight!). I paired it with a beige striped tee and a plaid scarf for a little extra warmth.
