The Tiny Heart: April 2014

Kentucky Derby Fashion + The Great Finish Sweepstakes

The Kentucky Derby is coming up this Saturday. I've never been to the derby before, but it's fun to imagine what I'd wear to it. I picked a brightly colored floral print dress paired with cobalt cut out heels. Of course no derby outfit is fully complete without a fabulous floppy hat! This one is pink and feathered to help you stand out!

Cottonelle is upping the ante at this year’s Kentucky Derby by launching the Cottonelle Great Finish Sweepstakes. The giveaway will reward Americans with a year supply of Cottonelle products should the No. 1 and No. 2 positioned racehorses place in that order during the race. The first 15,000 entrants to sign up will be awarded a year’s supply of Cottonelle toilet paper and flushable cleansing cloths if the outcome aligns!

Guest Post + Giveaway: Monica of Moda By Monika

Monica of Moda By Monika is taking over the blog today! She's a fellow Jersey girl and puggle mama that I can now call a real life friend. I know you'll love her as much as I do!

Hello Tiny Heart Readers!  I'm Monica and you can find me at Moda by Monika.  I'm predominantly a fashion blogger but I love anything DIY which is why I opened up my own Etsy shop
Thanks to the blogging I decided to get into beauty and I became a Mary Kay consultant which has been so fun!  I'm a Jersey girl who wears cowgirl boots.
Let's not forget, I'm obsessed with nail art and I'm very lucky to be blessed with amazing nails so I can feed my addiction of constantly changing the design on my nails.  I started my blog in 2010 then stopped after a few months (life got in the way) and a little over a year ago I decided to start blogging again.  Blogging started out as a hobby and it has turned into an amazing journey!

My closet is filled with shoes and lots of dresses.  I live in dresses, but don't let that girly girl exterior fool you, I have been known to work on my own car and turn into a total tomboy.  If you want to learn more about me don't be shy, come on over to my blog!

Now for the giveaway...Monica is giving away this Betsey Johnson heart necklace!

Yellow Cardigan + Lace Peplum

Cardigan-Forever 21 (similar Banana Republic Yellow Cardigan), Top-Aeropostale (similar Asos Lace Peplum Top), Necklace-Riffraff (similar Arden B Multi-Colored Necklace), Old Navy Jeans, Bag-Forever Tiff Couture (similar Big Buddha Crossbody Bag), KensieGirl Metallic Toe Flats

This look was inspired by an outfit Tara of Mix and Match Fashion put together. I wore it on Saturday while doing some shopping at the mall. I finally tried on a crop top to see for myself how the trend looked. I was a bit iffy about it, but thanks to some encouragement on Instagram (thanks guys!), I wound up purchasing it. Now I'm just waiting till it's warm enough to actually wear it out!

We also rented The Counselor this weekend. Despite the star studded cast (Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz etc), the movie was a disappointment. There was a lot of holes in the plot and very graphic violence. Skip it!

For Mix It Monday, I'm remixing my yellow cardigan. I've also worn it belted with my blue gingham shirt:

Look For Less: Reese Witherspoon's Leopard Skirt Outfit

Today I'm recreating Reese Witherspoon's leopard skirt look:

Merona Denim Jacket//Topshop Tank//Chicnova Leopard Skirt//BaubleBar Bar Necklace//Michael Antonio Ankle Strap Heels

I'm always looking for new ways to wear my denim jacket in the spring so I was drawn to this outfit. I love how Reese paired it with a simple black tank, yet the leopard skirt and pink heels give it sass. I think this outfit is a great mix of casual and chic. All of the items above are under $35, which I'm sure is a lot more affordable than what Reese is wearing!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Look What I Got: Coral Dress

Blazer-Forever 21 (similar Charlotte Russe White Blazer), BP Skater Dress, Necklace-Brighthouse Baubles (Modcloth Mint Necklace option), Bracelet-Brighthouse Baubles (similar Blu Bijoux Mint Bracelet), Pumps-c/o Oasap

I got this dress at Nordstrom on major sale. Originally $44, it was marked down to $24.90. I think it's the perfect little spring dress! It gives a nice, snug fit thanks to the bit of spandex in it. Here I styled it for work with a blazer, but I'm also planning to dress it down for the weekends with a pair of flats. A dress that can be worn for different occasions is always a win in my book!

Biker Chic

Jacket-Target (similar Charlotte Russe Faux Leather Jacket), Tank-c/o Style Lately, Necklace-Forever 21, Old Navy Jeans, Bag-H&M (similar Forever 21 Satchel), Flats-Gap Kids (similar Sam & Libby Bow Flats)

Some random Wednesday thoughts:

1. The Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion was craaazy with Porsha getting arrested for assaulting Kenya! I like how Andy Cohen says he was shocked at what happened. Really?! I guess he forgot about the couples party episode earlier in the season.

2. My new favorite thing to cook for dinner is burrito bowls. Cook chicken in taco seasoning. Add in white rice, black beans, salsa, cheese, and sour cream. It was almost as good as Chipotle! Check out my Instagram for a photo.

3. I'm loving that it doesn't get dark now till almost 8 pm! I've been using that extra daylight to take the dogs on long walks after dinner.

Radiant Orchid Dress + Starbucks Giveaway!

By now, you all probably know that Radiant Orchid was announced as the Pantone color of the year for 2014. I don't have anything in my wardrobe just yet in this pretty hue, but spring is the perfect time to incorporate the color into your wardrobe. I paired the Radiant Orchid dress with one of my favorite colors, cobalt, for some bold contrast. Add a lavender rhinestone bracelet and a pair of killer strappy sandals for your accessories.

Now I'd like to introduce you to Lindsey from Peace Love Sequins!

Hi, I'm Lindsey from Peace Love Sequins. My blog is about fashion, life and design. I am an aspiring fashion writer and thought a blog would be a great place to start! I share everything from the latest fashion trends, to my most recent design work to things going on in my life. I would love if you stop by and join the conversation!

Lindsey is giving away a $25 Starbucks gift card to one lucky reader!

Puggle Problems Solved with Scott Towels

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Scott Brand, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #Scottvalue

Oliver, my puggle, is almost four years old.

He might be all grown up, but he still acts like a puppy with all the energy he has. Oliver will go from zero to sixty if he sees the mailman, a squirrel, other dogs, people he knows, people he doesn't know, leaves blowing in the wind, or anything that confuses him (such as strollers and bicycles). Pretty much everything will excite him. You know, puggle problems.

Don't be fooled by this cute sleeping face.

Sometimes Olls gets a little too excited barking out the window at another dog walking by or when his other favorite humans come over to visit. This causes him to have accidents in the house. So, I like to stock up on Scott Towels at Kmart. They help clean up his messes and save my hardwood floors from getting ruined.

Oliver's "I'm sorry, Mom" look. It's hard to stay mad at that face!

Spring Trend: Floral Print

Floral print is always big for Spring. It's nice when something that's a "trend" is also classic! I have a bunch of floral print in my wardrobe and it's great that I can wear those pieces again and again every season. But it's also fun to add some new stuff right? (like I need an excuse to go shopping, ha). I have my eye on a floral romper. It could be dressed up with a pair of heels for a date, or worn casually with a denim jacket and flats sandals for the weekend. If you want to add some florals to your closet without breaking the bank, both the flats and the skater skirt are both under $12!

What's your favorite way to wear florals?

Look What I Got: Target Tee Shirt Dress

Jacket-Old Navy (similar Merona Denim Jacket), Mossimo T Shirt Dress, Necklace-Luxe Craving (similar Arden B Necklace), Converse Chuck Taylor Sneakers, Tote-c/o Massi

Last month I made an outfit collage featuring this t shirt dress from Target. This weekend I was finally able to wear it to run some errands while the weather was sunny and beautiful. (Yesterday I woke up to a dusting of snow. I don't want to talk about it!). The dress is super comfy and I love that it's a bit roomier on me for a relaxed, loose fit. The dress is $19.99 on Target's website, but I was able to get it 15% off thanks to the Cartwheel app

Coral Peplum + Q&A

Jacket-Target (similar Charlotte Russe Faux Leather Jacket), Top-Forever 21 (similar Liz Claiborne Peplum Top), Belt-Asos (similar Dorothy Perkins Leopard Belt for $9), Old Navy Jeans, Clutch-eBay (similar Winky Designs Sequin Clutch), Kensie Girl Metallic Flats

Last week I was tagged by Krysten of Why Girls Are Weird for a fun Q&A!

1. Why do you blog?

I blog because I absolutely love clothes and fashion! This blog is a nice little outlet for that passion. It also helps me to make the most of my wardrobe through remixing, as well as keep track of what I've already worn. I also continue to blog since it's been wonderful making so many new friends through it.

2. What's your favorite pastime?
I think it's obvious that shopping is my favorite pastime! (Shopping is a hobby, right?). I also love watching reality tv (Real Housewives, Millionaire Matchmaker, Teen Mom, The Bachelor...just to name a few).

3. Do you have any pets? If so, tell me about them!
If you've been reading my blog for a while, you already know I have two dogs. Oliver is a puggle and Jinx is a pit mix. They are my babies!

4. If you had the option of going to the desert, ocean, or mountains, which would you choose hands down and what time of year?
Since I live at the Jersey Shore, it would have to be the ocean! I love going to the beach in the summer, but I also enjoy how quiet and peaceful it is here in the spring before all the Bennies (aka tourists) come.
5. Is blogging your full time gig? If not, what is?
I'd love to blog full time one day, but for now it's just my second "job". I'm a social worker working with the elderly population. I don't talk much about my job on the blog for confidentiality reasons!
6. Sweet or savory?
Definitely sweet! Give me chocolate anything and I'm a happy girl. (preferably a Hershey's chocolate bar with almonds, thanks).

7. Where did you grow up?
I grew up in central NJ, about 45 minutes north of where I live now.
8. What is or would be number one on your bucket list?
I dream of opening my own clothing store one day, even if it's just an online boutique.

9. What kind of music do you normally listen to?

10. Bright colors or neutral tones?
This one is hard to chose because I like to wear both! But in the spring/summer months, I definitely gravitate towards brighter colors after the dreary winter.

11. Tell us one thing about yourself your readers don't already know.
I'd much rather text/email than talk on the phone. If someone calls and I don't recognize the number, I definitely won't pick up!
I'm tagging anyone that wants to do the Q&A post!
