The Tiny Heart: November 2013

Thanksgiving Outfit

Cardigan-Target Girls (in stores. Similar Takara Leopard Print Cardigan), Scarf-Target, Tee-Gap (similar Kohl's Striped Tee), Jeans-Target (similar Old Navy Rockstar Jeans), Boots-Nordstrom (similar Steve Madden Intyce Boots), Ebay Gold Sequin Clutch (less than $4!)

I will be wearing this outfit tomorrow for Thanksgiving at my parents' house. We don't get too dressed up so I like to wear something cute yet comfy for all the food I'll be stuffing my face with. I scored this leopard cardigan in the girls' section at Target. If you're petite like me, definitely check out their kids' clothes...I spotted many other cute things in there and it's cheaper than the women's section!

I'm going to be taking a little blog break for Thanksgivukkah...I'll be back on Monday. In the meantime, you can follow me on Instagram (expect to see lots of food pics these next few days!). Hope you all have a wonderful Thanskgiving and Chanukkah for those that celebrate!

Black Friday Shopping Outfit

Target Puffer Vest//Mng by Mango Striped Sweater//Kohl's Houndstooth Scarf//Lulu Quilted Crossbody Bag//Corso Como Riding Boots

Black Friday shopping requires an outfit that is comfy and warm. I'd wear a puffer vest and a striped sweater with a houndstooth scarf (for some fun pattern mixing) to stay cozy. I hate carrying around a heavy winter coat, so the puffer vest is a nice alternative. I like to keep my hands free for searching through the racks, so a crossbody bag is a must! Plus it's good in case you have to fight over that last sweater in your size. (Kidding!). I went with flat riding boots since your feet may hurt after standing in those long lines.

After working retail a few years ago, I have seen the other side of Black Friday shopping. And let me tell you, I saw some crazy customers! Personally I'd rather shop from the comfort of my own home for Cyber Monday and not deal with the crowds and the insanity.

Will you be doing Black Friday shopping?

Fashion Trends with InStyle & People StyleWatch

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and People StyleWatch and InStyle magazines but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #PeopleInStyle

I was in Target this weekend (yes, I am always there!) and picked up the December People StyleWatch and the December InStyle for  some fashion inspiration. I like to read up on the newest trends and get some fresh ideas for outfit planning. When you purchase both magazines together, you get a $5 Target Gift Card (from 11/29 until December 7th), win if you ask me! Especially if you shop in Target as much as I do!

Aztec Cardigan-c/o Sammydress (only $12!), Belt-Old Navy (similar JCrew Belt), Leather Leggings-Groopdealz (similar Forever 21 Faux Leather Leggings), Boots-Naturalizer (similar Aerosoles Boots), Bag-Botkier

InStyle had a round up of the biggest trends of 2013, including Graphic Black and White. I think black and white is classic and so chic. I was also inspired by People StyleWatch's Cozy & Chic trend, warm winter pieces with pops of red. It has been freezing here these last few days and I've been reaching for cozy clothes. These two trends inspired this outfit, an oversized black and white aztec cardigan with a pop of red in the belt.

Where do you get your fashion inspiration from?

2013 Fashion Trends with searsStyle

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client. #ThisisStyle #cbias

Today I'm sharing fall fashion trends from searsStyle. This Camo Chic outfit I put together highlights three trends this season: camo, graphic sweaters, and ankle booties. It's both comfy and cute, perfect for weekend brunch. You know I love to get the look for less...this entire outfit comes in at just $152! You can save even more money with the ShopYourWay rewards program. For every $1.00 you spend, you'll earn 10 points. These points can then be redeemed at Sears so you can shop some more!

Here are some other searsStyle items I'm loving that are right on trend:

Houndstooth is trendy this fall, but this classic pattern never goes out of style. This houndstooth coat would be the perfect topper for a LBD.

This leather paneled pencil skirt can work for the office paired with a plaid button down and blazer. Or glam it up for date night with a lace top and killer heels.

Bordeaux, wine, burgundy, or oxblood...whatever name you call it, this is the IT color of the season! I love these Bordeaux Pumps paired with leopard or cobalt, for a contrasting pop of color.

Now let's talk about Black Friday shopping! The biggest shopping day of the year is coming up, so you have to be prepared.  Here are my Black Friday shopping tips:

1. Make a list and stick to it! This will help save you both time and money by focusing only on what you need to buy.

2. Do your homework. Often the Black Friday ads are released in advance. Scope out the deals before you set foot in the store!

3. Know the store hours. If you're looking to buy a big ticket item, like a TV, you'll have to get there early! Make sure you're aware of exactly what time the store opens if you want to be first in line.

4. Wear a comfy outfit. Most likely you'll be standing in line (either outside or at the checkout!), so wear flats/sneakers. If you're shopping for clothes for yourself, you should also wear an outfit that you can easily change in at the fitting room (think zippers, not buttons!).

5. Know the return policy and get gift receipts. There's nothing worse than receiving a holiday gift that you don't like, only to find that you can't actually return it!

6. Be nice to the store employees. As someone who has worked retail in the past, kindness goes a long way on Black Friday! They're helping you find what you need, so don't be rude to them.

Today I want to introduce you to Uncommon Goods. They feature unique and handcrafted gifts. They are environmentally friendly, with many of the products incorporating recycled or upcycled materials. All the products featured are animal friendly as well, which I love. They also donate a portion of every order to non-profit organizations, such as RAINN, the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network. Uncommon Goods has donated over $700,000 to various organizations since they started this program!

The Flamingo Skull Cap that I'm wearing is so quirky and fun for the winter! It is an Uncommon Goods exclusive, which means you won't find it anywhere else.

Here are some of my favorite products from the site, all which would make great holiday gifts:

The Pick Punch lets you take materials (such as old credit cards) and turns them into custom guitar picks.
The Aquafarm is a combination garden and fish bowl that makes a symbiotic ecosystem.
Kinetic Sand may look like regular sand at first, but it can actually be molded into three-dimensional objects! This would be perfect for building sandcastles at home if you have kids.

Now for the giveaway...Uncommon Goods is generously giving away $40 to the site to one lucky reader!

Colored Wool Coats

Soon it's going to get awfully cold here in Jersey and I've got coats on the brain! I wore a black wool peacoat last winter, but for this year I'd love to get a colored wool coat instead. It seems they come in every color of the rainbow (wouldn't it be great to own one in each color?). I can't think of a better way to cheer up a dreary winter day than with one of these bright coats! Best of all, they're all under $150.

Do you love brightly colored coats or do you stick to neutrals?

Saturday I went to a blogger meet up in the city and this is what I wore to it. This was my second blogger meet up, so I definitely wasn't as nervous as the first time around (although I did still stress over my outfit!). We had lunch/brunch at the Le Pain Quotidien in Soho. I met Monica, Sara, Christie, Alex, Angelis, and Mel. Everyone was so sweet and I had a really great time! This is truly my favorite part about blogging, making new friends that I otherwise never would have met.

Me and Sara

Obligatory shoe photo!

Monica gave each us a swag bag with a striped tee, so sweet of her!

Angelis gave us beautiful bracelets from her store, A Closet Full. Best of all, it fit my tiny wrist!

Thanks ladies for such a fun afternoon...can't wait to do it again!

Friday's Fancies: Pretty in Plaid!

Topshop Cable Knit Sweater//Land's End Plaid Skirt (only $7.99!)//Chinese Laundry Set in Stone Boots//Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC Bag//Michael Kors Chronograph Watch

If you couldn't already tell, I am obsessed with plaid this fall. The preppy print is timeless, so even when the plaid trend is over, you'll still be in style. I figured this time I'd style a plaid skirt outfit, since it's one plaid item I don't have in my closet. The skirt is a whopping $7.99! I paired it with a cozy cable knit sweater and riding boots for a chilly fall day.

Have a great weekend! See you all on Monday!
