The Tiny Heart: June 2013

Friday's Fancies: Beach Ready

You can almost always find me sitting on the beach during the summer since all I have to do is walk down the block. I think I've got packing my beach bag down to an exact science...

Here's what inside the bag:

1. Sunscreen. I always use SPF 50 or above. I prefer the spray kind to the lotion because they're so much easier and quicker to apply. I like to use this one on my face since the traditional sunscreens can clog pores.

2. Water. My little trick: put your bottle of water in the freezer a few hours before I heading to the beach so it stays nice and cold all day in your cooler.

3. Magazines. A guilty pleasure of mine is reading style or celebrity gossip mags on the beach. Just be careful touching the ink or it may rub off onto your skin from the sunscreen!

4. Cover up. I like to wear a long tunic/tank as my beach cover up to get double the use out of it.

5. iPod. Putting in my headphones is crucial for tuning that one loud/annoying person who decides to sit near you. Just be careful with blowing sand getting into your electronics.

6. Flip Flops. These are essential for walking on the hot sand. I like to stock up on the ones from Old Navy, since they make them in every color of the rainbow for dirt cheap.

Throw on a colorful swimsuit and you're good to go! What's in your beach bag?

Look What I Got: Mint Bib Necklace

Tank-Old Navy, Necklace-Brighthouse Baubles, Maxi Dress worn as Skirt-Bought on vacay (similar), Sandals-Target (similar), Sunnies-Ray Ban

I'm not sure about the rest of the country, but it's been crazy hot here the last few days. So hot that it makes me wish I could just wear a bikini all day. Since I don't think my office would appreciate that, I settled for this simple outfit.

I picked out this necklace thanks to a giveaway I won from Tara. Yes, I already have a mint necklace but I asked myself, can a person have too many mint necklaces? Nope, no such thing.

Now I want you to meet Jewel from Style Optimist! Just like me, she loves a good bargain.

I started my blog to have fun with fashion and style and share that with other bloggers who shared similar interests. While I do love fashion and style, I love more to find a great item at an even greater price. Fashion and style isn't about how much something costs, but how you feel when you put it on.

Printed Shorts Under $25

I am loving the printed shorts trend for summer! You don't need to break the bank on them either...all of these shorts are under $25. If you're petite like me, you may be able to get away with girls' shorts like pair #1.

Summer To Do List

Summer is officially here and there's so many things I want to do! Here's my Summer To Do List:

1. Lots of beach time! This one is easy to check off since all I have to do is walk down the street to get to the beach.

2. Go to the boardwalk in Point Pleasant. Greasy foods, arcade games, mini golf, an aquarium...what more could I want?

3. Go to New Hope, PA for the day. They have cute little boutique stores and beautiful river views. It makes the perfect day trip. (PS this photo is from last year's trip...I'm not that tan yet!).

4. Go out for brunch. There's a cute little place near us that has outdoor seating and the food is delicious.

5. Use my ice cream maker! It makes the creamiest, richest ice cream I've ever tasted. It also makes yummy sorbet (like the mango one I made last year).

6. Visit the city. I lived in New York for 4 years so it's fun to go back (even though I kinda feel like a tourist now). Nothing beats the shopping, the restaurants, and the energy that can only be found in the city.

I'll be having all these summer adventures in my new Kia Sportage.  It's absolutely perfect for road trips. I love that I don't have to worry about stopping for gas since the gas mileage is amazing. (368 miles on a tank!). It's super comfy too for both my petite self and my 6'4" hubby (plenty of leg room!). All I need is some snacks and I'm ready to hit the road!

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

High Five For Friday!

1. We went out for ice cream the first time this summer last weekend. I got mint chocolate chip with cake crunch. Even though I ordered a small, they give SO much. I took the rest of it home and ate it again while watching the Bachelorette Monday night.

2. We've been having some crazy thunderstorms lately. Oliver is usually okay with storms, but this one freaked him out. He was panting and shaking in the corner. Poor thing!

3. Saturday night we had our anniversary dinner date. I ordered pesto linguini with chicken and it was delicious!

4. The hubs fell asleep on the beach, so naturally I had to take a photo, hehe. (Hopefully he's not reading this post!)

5. Yesterday I hit 1,000 readers on Bloglovin! Thanks so much, guys!

Look What I Got: Coral & Mint Maxi Dress

Maxi Dress-Three Bird Nest, Necklace-Eclectic Ornaments, Clutch-Target (similar), Sandals-AE

This maxi dress was originally $42 and I scored it when it went on sale for $28. (It's full price again but it just may be worth it! It has pockets, people!). Of course it was crazy long on me (like 10.5 inches too long) but I really wanted to wear it for our anniversary dinner. I hadn't had time to get it hemmed. So I resorted to using double sided tape to temporarily "hem" it. I don't recommend it, but I figured no one was looking at the bottom of my dress while I was sitting down, right?

Shop My Closet!

Tank-Express (similar), Necklace-INPINK, Shorts-Forever 21 (exact ones), Bag-H&M, Sandals-American Eagle (similar)

I've gradually been cleaning out my closet over these past few weeks. It was getting to the point where it was a black hole in there...I'd look for a specific dress and it would take me all day to find it.

The good news is that you can Shop My Closet! Most of my clothes are XS-M. Some items are brand new with tags. I haven't been able to list everything on here just yet, so keep checking back for new items.

Shopping Fail

Fedora-Forever 21 (similar for $7.50), Dress-Forever 21, Bag-Target (similar), Sandals-Target

I love shopping Forever 21 online since they have such a larger inventory than what I can find in my local F21. And it is so easy to just click a few times and boom, new clothes. But I wound up only liking one pair of shorts I ordered out of the four things I purchased. The other items either didn't fit right or it were just totally different in person. Online shopping FAIL! So, I'll be going back to my Forever 21 store after all for the returns. Guess I should've just gone there in the first place.

PS Last day to enter the infinity scarf giveaway!
