The Tiny Heart: High Five For Friday

High Five For Friday

Linking up with From My Grey Desk for:
These Five Things posts have been going around so I decided to do one for High Five for Friday. Here's Five Things you probably didn't know about me:

1. I kept my last name after we got married. The hubs said the decision was mine and he was okay with whatever I decided. I actually got all the paperwork ready to change it at the Social Security office and then I decided that I'd rather keep my name. A lot of people asked me afterwards why I didn't change it, as if it was the weirdest thing in the world. It's simple...I LIKE my name and it's who I am. Plus my name has a nice ring to it!

Horse back riding in the Puerto Rican jungle

2. The first time I ever flew on a plane was in 2008. I went to Puerto Rico with my hubby (boyfriend back then). I do not enjoy flying and I get major anxiety every time I fly. I'll do it, but I don't think I could ever be on a flight longer than 6 hours.

3. My social work job is part time. I work 6.5 hours a day. I'm home by 3:15 pm every day which I loooove. I have plenty of time to walk the dogs, make dinner, and of course watch some reality tv. When I get a full time job again, it's going to feel like the longest day ever!

This photo is hanging in our living room...I just love living here!

4. I live at the beach, but I don't eat seafood. Of course there's a ton of seafood restaurants over here and I can't go to most of them! Thankfully there's still a bunch of very good non-seafood places to eat at.

Penne Vodka & Meatballs

5. Speaking of food...I think I should've been Italian. It's my favorite kind of food to eat and cook. Spaghetti and Meatballs, Penne Vodka, Eggplant Parm, Chicken Cacciatore...you name it. I could literally eat pasta every single night and never get sick of it!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Your name really does have a nice ring to it! You live at the beach? How did I not know this before? Ahhh....so nice!

Oh...ps...I featured you in my Best of Style post today...(I hope it's ok that I grabbed one of your pictures....I linked back to you!)

  4. I will be getting married in January and lately I've been having thoughts about keeping my name as well. And just as I was thinking about keeping my name, the future mister asks me another thing that's been bugging my mind. If I decide to keep my name, what last name should the baby have? Hmmmm... oh names names.... I love my name just the way it is too. I've been practicing signing my name with the future mister's last name but it just doesn't feel/look right. Anyway, ooooh Penne Vodka?! Looks and sounds interesting! I will definitely try to look around online for the Penne Vodka recipe, I would love to try it.

  5. I love learning more about my blogger friends! Its great that your hubs supported you with not changing your last name. Sometimes his last name just doesn't sound right with your first name! haha And I'm super jealous of you working part time! When I lived in CA, my hours were 5am-2pm and I LOVED getting off early in the day to get stuff done, workout, run errands. 5am was rough sometimes, but o well.

  6. Love that you kept your maiden name :) For years I hyphenated mine for work but got lazy and eventually dropped the maiden name. Also love the photo. Not sure if you remember me telling you that I lived in Avon for years, and even though I live in Tx now, I have a framed picture of the water and gazebo of Avon hung on my wall :)

  9. Love hearing your 5 things!!! I LOVE being Italian and making authentic food my mom and grandma taught me. It's my favorite food to eat, too!! I don't mind flying but I get sick when I fly - even on a short trip to Florida I get nauseous which is weird because I love roller coasters and heights. I'm also starting a PT job next Tuesday right up the street! I'll be done at 3! Kinda nervous since I've been working from home for a year now. haha When I get a "real" job I'm going to have a rude awakening lol!

  11. I could definitely eat Italian food every day! So yummy. I work 5am-2pm, so I definitely know what you mean about having the afternoon to get stuff done - it's the best!

  15. Sharon, this was great doll! I love pasta too. I didn't know you were a social worker. My mom teaches it at university. Have a great weekend! :D

  16. I'm not a big fan of seafood but I do love shrimp. That is it. Everything else is gross to me. That's so nice that you get home so early from work! Beat all of the rush hour traffic. And the beach nearby is a huge plus.

  18. I'm so jealous you get home so early! I usually leave the house around 8 and don't get home until 8pm. Horse back riding in the jungle sounds like fun!! And yummm pasta is my favorite thing to eat too.

  19. I am going to change my name, and I'm dreading all the paperwork! But I totally understand why you didn't. It's really weird to think of being called something different. I love to travel, but I get motion sickness on planes, so I can completely sympathize with your dislike of flying. Italian food is my favorite thing ever!

    Have a lovely weekend! :)

  20. I have a few friends who kept their last names, nothing wrong with that! I'm also with you on flying, I have anxiety about it too. And I LOVE italian food, it is my most favorite!!

  23. The first time I was on a "real" plane was in 2009, when my hubby (then boyfriend) went on my first cruise. Before then, I had only been on a private 4-6 seater plane.

I used to be in the social work/counseling/mental health field, and even have a master's in counseling, but I don't have a desire to do it. Crazy, huh? Just not for me.

  24. I didn't know you kept your last name! I've seriously debated it before because I like my last name haha! And having a part-time job would be amazinggg! 6.5 hours is still pretty long though, so give yourself some credit! :)

  25. I love posts like this Sharon & that first photo is amazing. =) Too bad you don't eat seafood because it is great. I miss having you on my page. I continue to check out your cute blog & fun, colorful outfits even-though I can't comment enough due to a very little baby at home.

By the way Sharon, I would love for you to participate in My Birthday Blog Party. For more details read My Blog. Thanks and Let me know. If so, submit your post to me via E-Mail by May 2nd.

    Enjoy your Weekend, Ada. =)

  26. 6.5 hours is only 1.5 hours short of a normal work day, so you still work more than the regular part-timer! Getting a chance to catch up on those shows though, would be fantastic! :)

  28. Girl, you are living the dream life.. next to the beach and work only 6.5 hours a day! I'm jealous :)

I do have to ask though, does your social work consist of going into homes & removing children? I'm a child support case worker and our social workers here have to do that. Some of the stories are so crazy.

  29. I love that you kept your last name. I changed mine to my middle so I have both now. No hyphens, just a new middle name. I only have one other sister so we both did it keep our maiden names alive. I am totally same as you...I hate seafood and live at the beach. It's rough sometimes but I can usually find something to order!

    Happy weekend, Sharon!

  34. The thing with your last name.. it gets sticky when you have kids.. when you bring your kids to the dr. or register them for school.. they usually put your last name on the kids..then you have to explain that you have a different last name and then you get the look... like.. "oh.. do they all have the same dad???"... I know this from experience... I changed my last name to Bruce because it got too hard to have a different last name than my kids..

  35. Interesting info here Sharon. I did think your last name did you well with your first. Now I know why. hahahaha. I like fish but not as much as I used to. I love Halibut or Salmon. NONE of the others tho, and ...I CAN'T STAND shrimp! YYYYYUUUUUCCKKKK.

Have a great pasta eating, social working part-time, doggie loving, tv watching good time this weekend! (hug)

  36. It's funny that you say you live on the beach but don't like seafood. I've been contemplating an island vacation but I keep thinking "but.. what if all they have to eat is fish?!" I hate fish...

  37. I struggled with wanting to change my name, but I did, but I wish I had hyphenated it like my sister did. It would be so long, though. I love Italian and wish I lived at the beach.

  38. I HATE that I took my ex's last name. Mostly because now it's too expensive to change back and since the BF and I are talking marriage all the time I figure why waste the money? When we get hitched I'm probably going to hyphenate. I want to have his last name but I don't even want to lose my maiden name again.

  39. Love the pic of the beach. Relaxing. It would be so awesome if I worked part time. Now that I'm blogging, I feel like there's isn't enough time in the day. Have a great weekend.

  43. We have one major similarity, Sharon, even I have not changed my name after marriage!
But when I fly to India, it is at times almost 15 hrs at a stretch in the flight!

  46. I didn´t change my last name either after I married the hubby! I could´ve done it if we lived in my home country but in Spain, it´s customary for the ladies to maintain their family name even after they got married and so it was okay for me.

Count me in with the pasta mania because I am a fan too! ;)

  47. Yum! I love all types of pasta too - or carbs for that matter haha. Great post and blog dear!

  50. I think that's pretty cool you kept your name!! I wanted to get rid of my maiden name because it was awful (and can't forget the fact that my hubby said "you have a really crappy last name" in his proposal, haha), but if I liked it I definitely would have kept it!!
