The Tiny Heart: April 2013

Guide to Wedding Guest Dresses

After attending 7 weddings since last year, I decided to put together a little guide to help you find the perfect dress to wear if you've got a wedding to attend.

Left to right (click the links for original post):

1. Winter Wedding: For a wedding held in January, I chose a sheath in a dark green color. Think jewel tones: emerald green, dark purple, ruby red, etc. Accessorize with tights for added warmth.

2. Night Wedding: A night time wedding calls for something a little fancier. Choose more luxurious fabrics like satin or silk.

3. Daytime Wedding: Printed dresses work well for daytime weddings, as well as weddings that are more informal. Pops of color can be added with accessories such as a clutch.

4. Spring/Summer Weddings: A dress in a bright solid color with minimal accessories works well. Turquoise, yellow, coral, and hot pink (as seen above) are all great color choices for the warmer months.

5. Destination Wedding: The tropical locale allows you to experiment with bright colors, so have fun with it! Choose a breathable fabric such as cotton since it's going to be hot out there. For a destination wedding in the Bahamas, I went with a cobalt dress with a contrasting mint necklace. Another option is a flowy maxi paired with dressy sandals.

Come back on Thursday to see what I wore to last weekend's wedding!

Today is going to be a rough one. Not only is it Monday, but I'm still exhausted from the wedding we went to on Saturday night (more on that on Thursday!). I didn't go to bed till 2 am, which is oh, about 4 hours past my bedtime. I am not one of those people that functions well on little sleep. Anything less than 8 or 9 hours and I'm a zombie. I wish I could pull a George Costanza and take a nap under my desk without the boss noticing.

Friday's Fancies: April Showers

Linking up with Long Distance Loving for:

This April wasn't too rainy in Jersey, but those April showers are a good excuse to bring out your cute rain gear. Lately I've been on a yellow kick (if you couldn't tell). Rainy days can be so gloomy and yellow is a great way to brighten it up!

Hope you all have a great weekend! I'm going to yet another wedding.

Look What I Got Link Up: Target Neon Bag

Chambray-Target (similar), Top-Forever 21 (similar for $10), Nameplate Necklace-Gift circa 1996 (similar), Bag-Target, Jeans-Old Navy, Flats-Target

Neon still kinda scares me, but this hot pink purse called my name at Target for $26.99. Good thing it was cheap, since the Jeep unfortunately is not going to live to see another day. Not only did I love driving it, I also loved that we owned it. A new car was not in the budget, so it looks like I'll be living on a diet of ramen and saltines and won't be doing any shopping for the next three years.

I'm now taking May sponsors. I've changed the options a little since last month so be sure to check it out!

Plane Style

When I'm traveling, I like to be comfy yet still stylish on the plane. And what's more comfy than jeans and a tee? I always wear flip flops so I can breeze through security (or run through the airport to catch the flight). Sometimes the plane gets chilly so I grab a cardi. My carry on is usually packed full of fashion magazines. Luckily the tote won't get too heavy with the thin and light Envy 4 Touchsmart Ultrabook™ with Intel® Core™ processors.

There is a contest with HP + Intel + Project Runway called Pin Your Style. You can win prizes like an HP Envy 4 Touchsmart Ultrabook™ and a gift card to bring your style to life by getting the top votes for your board. Want to participate?

Pin a photo of the HP Envy 4 Touchsmart Ultrabook™ via the Pin It button on the Pin Your Style contest page. Then, build a board that represents that week's theme. Check out the weekly Pinsetter images on the site for inspiration. Submit your board's URL into the site to enter. Then, share your board with friends to earn the most votes! You can vote between April 29 - May 12 by viewing the Pinterest board submissions on the Pin Your Style contest page, and vote for your favorites.

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective, and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

I might be wearing yellow, the color of sunshine and happiness but I'm feeling more like Grumpy Cat. Friday morning on my way to work, my Jeep started overheating. The Jeep is now at the car hospital (aka the mechanic), waiting to hear what's wrong with it.  The Jeep is old, has a lot of mileage on it, but I love driving it. I'll be super sad if the repairs aren't worth fixing...we're not sure she's going to make it.

Friday's Fancies: Nice + Neon

I like neon best when it's done in a subtle way. Just a pop of color with neutrals. Otherwise you may look one step away from needing legwarmers and a banana clip.

Have a great weekend, loves!

Look What I Got Link Up: Target Floral Skirt

I got this floral skirt from Target. For some reason, it was labelled "online item" and it was marked down to $5.67 from $22.99. There were plenty of other ones on the rack but this was the only one that was on sale...SCORE! Actually purchasing it was another story...

Denim Jacket-Old Navy (similar), Tank-Express (similar), Skirt-Target, Pumps-c/o Oasap

I was buying a bunch of other stuff (naturally at Target I never buy just one thing) and I had a physical gift card and a few on my phone. The guy scans the first two and when he gets to the third, there's an error message. He tries manually typing it! So then he has to get the manager. (He closes the line off to more customers and I know it's going to be a while). She looks at it and asks if I'm sure there's money on it. Lady, I'm sure! She attempts the same thing the guy did with no luck. So then she gets on the red phone and they are no help. I start thinking I won't be able to buy the rest of my stuff. She decides to just void the order and try it all over again. And finally, it goes through!

Q&A + Giveaway: Kemi of Beauty Style Growth

Today I did a Q&A with Kemi from Beauty Style Growth. I hope you enjoy getting to know her as much as I did! Plus she has a gift card giveaway for you!

1. Describe your style!
My style is conservative, classic, and I love trendy too but with a conservative twist.

2. What are you top 5 can't live without items in your closet?
I can't live without my jeans, definitely shoes, pencil skirts, pull over sweater, and a camisole. I wear a cami under everything.

3. You're an Avon rep...what are your favorite Avon products?
I have a lot of favorites. All the skin care, make up and bath and body products  I use are from Avon. My favorite makeup products are the foundations. They provide really good coverage and last all day and of course they are value priced.
4. What are your style tips for other busy moms?
As a busy mom, You don't have to sacrifice looking good for being too busy or chasing after your children. Wear clothes that fit and upgrade your look with a nice blazer black or colored, a nice scarf, or heels. I would say incorporate a trend or two: stripes, colored skinnies, leopard print or color blocking. These are instant wardrobe updates.

5. What are your favorite stores to shop at?
My favorite stores are Macy's, The Limited, Gap, Old Navy and Target; and for shoes, I shop at Nine West. I really don't like to pay too much for my clothes.

6. Which spring trend is your favorite? Which one will you be staying away from?
My favorite spring trend is wearing color and color blocking. I believe that's in now, right? I love all the colors I'm seeing these days and I've started incorporating color into my outfits. I think I'm still going to stay away from printed pants for now.

7. What are some of your daily blog reads?
Kendi Everyday, Putting Me Together, AJ wears clothes,Mix and Match Fashion, Marionberry Style,My Garments of Praise,Plane Pretty, and of course this blog and so many more.
8. What's your go-to outfit? (aka what you put on when you can't think of what to wear)?
I have two: on days I wake up too tired to think of what to wear, or too tired to wear the killer outfit I planned (I have many of those days), I wear a simple day dress or sweater and black pants/jeans.
