The Tiny Heart: January 2013

Look What I Got Link Up: Rent the Runway Dress

Dress-Opening Ceremony via Rent the Runway, Necklace-Forever 21 (similar), Pumps-Andres Machado

This past Saturday we attended a wedding reception for my friends' in Upstate NY. (The actual ceremony was the week prior and only close family was invited). I decided to rent another dress from Rent the Runway, since I loved the first one I rented (you can see that dress here). If you're not familiar with Rent the Runway, it's a site that allows you to rent designer dresses and accessories for a fraction of the cost.

Sign up for Rent the Runway using my referral link (free to join) and get $20 off your first rental!

We had to drive up early Saturday morning thanks to snow the night before. I decided to make headband curls, since I could sit with the headband on for hours in the car. I wanted to be comfy for the ride, so I changed in the bathroom when we arrived and did my makeup there as well. I was a little worried I'd look like a mess, but I think I pulled it together!

Dress by Opening Ceremony. Retail price: $405. Rental normally: $75 + $10 shipping = $85
Used a coupon for $15 off + free shipping = Grand total: $60!

When we were at the wedding this past weekend, I found out the groom had recently gone to a hypnotist to stop smoking. I'm now really curious to find out if this works or if one day he'll randomly start quacking like a duck.

My hubby is a smoker (unfortunately) and it would be great if all he had to do was get hypnotized to stop. (Plus fork over a ton of money. Apparently hypnosis ain't cheap). The last time he attempted to quit, he got so cranky that I was about to hand him over a cigarette.

Have you ever been hypnotized? Does it really work for bad habits?

I'm exhausted. This weekend the hubs and I took a mini road trip to upstate New York for our friends' wedding (you'll see what I wore to it on Thursday). We woke up at 5:45 am on Saturday to make it there on time...FYI I do not function well at that ungodly hour. When the alarm went off, I kept hitting buttons on my phone to try to make it stop. I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't shut off.  I was so tired I didn't realize the alarm was coming from the hubby's phone instead.

We stayed over in a hotel Saturday night, but I don't sleep nearly as well in hotels as I do in my own bed. It's now 7:20 pm on Sunday and I'm calling it a night!

Link Up: Letters to My Former Single Self

Today I'm co-hosting a new link up from Lisette of Northern Belle Diaries called Letters to My Former Single Self. It's a four week long link up, with a different question each week.

This week's question is:
What did you think about dating and relationships when you were little?  What do you think of them now?

Dear Sharon,

When you were little, you thought your handsome prince would come rescue you like he did for Cinderella. Or like Richard Gere did for Julia Roberts (minus the hooker part). Not only would he be handsome, but rich too. (Your mom told you you better marry rich to support your expensive taste in clothes). Once you found your prince, everything would be like sunshine and rainbows.

Now you know that you didn't need any rescuing. Your "prince" needs you just as much as you need him. It's okay if he's not rich, since you make your own money! (plus he doesn't really understand why handbags are so expensive). Relationships are not perfect and require both people to work at it. But you did get one thing right...he sure is handsome!

(FYI, this photo isn't from our wedding)
And so that you're ready for next week's question:
What did you think about dating and marriage the year before you met "the one?"

Frozen Tundra

Dress worn as Top-c/o Kintage, Necklace-c/o Chicnova, Shorts-Rampage, Ankle Boots-c/o Andres Machado

When these photos were taken over the weekend, it was 55 degrees out. Today it's supposed to be 25. Figured I'd explain the temp difference just in case you actually thought I was wearing shorts in the frozen tundra. Hells no.

I'll probably have on four shirts plus a parka and get mistaken for an eskimo.
