The Tiny Heart: Hair Essentials

Hair Essentials

Many of you have been asking how I style my hair, so I'm sharing the 3 different ways I usually wear it.

To achieve straight hair, I first put Sleek.look by Matrix Blow-Down Cream into my wet hair. This helps cut down on frizz. Then I blow dry with a hairdryer and flat iron with my ghd iron. By the time I go through this whole process, I pretty much need a nap.

For beach waves, I spray Garnier Fructis Wonder Waves onto wet hair and scrunch. Easy-peasy, right? (Or you can just jump into the ocean and let the saltwater do its thang).

For soft curls, I use the No Heat Curls Headband method (type that into You Tube for a tutorial). For the longest time, I tried curling my hair with a curling iron or my flat iron to no avail. It would take me forever only to discover that the curls wouldn't stay. This is hands down the easiest way to get gorgeous, long lasting curls.

You can get different curls depending on the size of the headband...

(see, they even held up in the crazy heat in the Bahamas!)

I've discovered I don't actually need to keep the headband in overnight...it works in just 30 minutes. After I take the headband out, I spray Dove Extra Hold Hairspray on and I'm good to go!

Do you wear your hair straight, wavy, or curly? Are you a slave to your hair?

I'll have to check out that headband method!

    these all look great! :)

Oh and you do not know how jealous I am of you today and that you live so close to the beach... I want a little shore in my life right now.

  19. My hair is naturally stick straight. Most of the time I feel really lucky for having straight hair, because it is very much wash and go. I don't even brush it! It gets tangled pretty easily, but I can usually get the knots out in the shower with some conditioner.
Sometimes I do want it to not be straight. I'm going to have to try that head band method. I usually do the sleep in braids and get waves method.

  36. Sharon, you have been rocking the product reviews - I'm actually off in a bit to buy and try out the Aqua smoothers you reviewed last week. You are SO GORGEOUS and your hair is amazing in all these pics! I'm a total hair/product slave - my hair is naturally spirally curly, but the curls are uneven so I have to fight with it (diffuse like crazy) to get it to look good. So what I normally end up doing is blowing it straight and using a styling want to make larger curls. I rarely wear it straight because it is really fine and just doesn't ever look good. May need to try these products out, too!

  40. Uhg, I wish my hair was as easy as your to do. I have naturally really curly hair, so I've tried the no heat overnight headband method for a softer, looser curl. Well, it just produces a mess! In the summer time -- well, most of the year, I wear my hair curly. I will straighten here and there (it takes for freakin EVER!) but NOT when it's humid, that's a no no :)

  42. I feel your pain on the straightening thing. I feel that way when I blow dry my hair straight instead of flat ironing (I find blowdry gives me more volume so I like to do that every now and again!). It takes forever and is a giant pain the butt. I've tried that headband method but it just doesn't work for me! I wish it did - my curls get so tight they look ridic. :P Yours are so cute!!
