The Tiny Heart: BFFs

7.09.2012

BFFs

I first met my friend Stephanie in kindergarten. We were both petite brown eyed, brown haired girls with the very same initials (SS) and became best friends immediately. We practiced our gymnastic moves, played with makeup, and sat next to each other in school. We had sleepovers where we'd stay up the entire night sharing secrets and eating tons of junk food. Her family was practically my second family. There was an exchange of "best friends forever" necklaces. We were joined at the hip.

 Top-F21(similar), Shorts-AE, Necklace-Dogeared, Sandals-Target (similar)

Then, when we were juniors in high school, Stephanie and her family moved to Florida. We've stayed in touch through email and Facebook, but with the distance between us, we're not nearly as close. Saturday night I got to see Stephanie for the first time in about twelve years, on her first trip back to Jersey since she moved away. I got to meet her two little boys, introduce her to my hubby, and see her family again. And not only do we both still have the same SS initials, but we now share a last name (her husband has the same name as me). Our seven year old selves would've been overjoyed.

Are you still close with your childhood best friend? Has your relationship changed over the years?

  1. Aw that's SO cute! In 5th grade one of my bffs moved away and I was devastated - it's definitely hard to keep in touch when there's that long distance! Anyway, you look so cute, love that white top :)

  22. I moved around a lot growing up (navy brat), so I have friends all over the country. I've been able to keep in touch with a lot of people thanks to facebook. It's always fun to see someone after such a long time. I reunited with my best friend from 5th-8th grade after 8 years apart and it was like we'd never separated.

PS: I love the flowy white top with the wavy hair and strappy gold sandals. You look like a greek goddess!
