The Tiny Heart: All Tied Up

All Tied Up

This outfit was inspired by Jessica from Jessica Chronicled. After my mom hemmed my polka dot dress, there was a bunch of material left over. She asked me if I wanted her to make it into something and she came up with this tie scarf. Until I saw the similar look on Jessica, I wasn't sure how to style it. Thanks girl for the inspiration!

Button Down-Thrifted A&F (similar button down), Scarf-DIY by my mom (similar in yellow), Jeans-Paper Denim Cloth ($15 option), Wedges-Nordstrom

I wore this outfit to work and got a mixed review from my boss's husband. He did a double take when he saw me and said, "You're wearing a tie?!" as if I had walked into work wearing a bikini. He also said this outfit sends the message "don't mess with me" but I think that's just from the dirty look I gave him after he dissed my outfit.

Do you guys like my hair like this? I used the no heat curls headband (type that into You Tube for a tutorial) and I think I'm kinda obsessed with it (even more so than the sock bun). I first tried it the night before my cousin's wedding. I've now discovered it will actually work if I just put my hair in the headband for 30 minutes and then hair spray it into place. For someone that usually blow dries then painstakingly flat irons my hair, this is revolutionary!

Have you tried the no heat curls headband method?

  5. You look super cute with your "tie"! And the hair is perfect! I used to do the whole blow dry / flat iron routine, too, but I only did it when my hair was shorter and I still got tired of it after a couple years. I can't imagine doing it with hair your length. This is totally the way to go (and wavy hair is so in right now; why not?!)

  10. Why are you smart? I would have never thought of using scraps from a hemmed dress. And I love wearing sock buns, but when I tried the curl trick, it didn't work. Unfortunately, my pin straight hair won't curl with a bun, OR with heat :(

I used to do the headband curls all the time, but hadn't for a while. This weekend, I tried again, but forgot to adjust for the extra few inches of hair that had grown. When I woke up just in time to race out the door for my pedicure, I realized my hair was still mostly wet! Unfortunately, my hair doesn't hold a curl very well so consider yourself lucky to get away with the 30 minute solution!
