Wedding Guest Attire: Printed Dress

Dress-Express (old) (similar), Belt-Old Navy (similar), Clutch-Vintage (similar), Pumps-Andres Machado (HERE)

We attended our friends' wedding on Saturday afternoon. We were super excited for them since they got engaged before we did and it wasn't until 3 months ago that they decided they were actually going to plan a wedding. It was the complete opposite of the last wedding we attended, as it was non traditional and very laid back. The luncheon took place before the ceremony, so we saw both the bride and groom before they walked down the aisle. (The bride changed from a white, short cocktail dress into her wedding gown so there was still some surprise). There were no flowers, no DJ or band, and the ceremony took place in a bar.

Because it was a day wedding, I decided to wear a printed dress, as it's a bit more fun and less formal. Apparently some of the wedding guests interpreted "day wedding" to mean flip flops, shorts, and jeans! I was horrified...holy inappropriate! It's never okay to wear any of those things to a wedding, unless you're at a destination wedding (and even then the shorts are pushing it!). Let's just say these guests were not from Jersey (I won't name which state).

2 weddings down, 3 more to go to this year!

  1. I love your printed dress! So pretty! I can't believe people wore shorts and flip flops! I've seen people wear jeans before and I was totally shocked.

  5. sharon, you attend a lot of weddings. :) lucky... it's so fun because you get to dress up... i miss those days. i remember going to a lot of weddings before having kids... but most of my friends are married now... and i don't think i've been to a wedding in five years. crazy, huh?

love the outfit you chose for the day wedding. i am petite also, so the empire-waist style works really well on you. love the red accent. :)

hope you have a great day!

    1. It is fun getting dressed up! It seems all of my friends got engaged at the same time...funny because prior to this year, my hubby and I had never been to a wedding together (other than our own!)

  7. People just don't dress the same for weddings and funerals anymore. It's truly sad. Put some effort into it. LOVE your dress and the red accessories Sharon. You two looked cute.

  9. I love your dress! Not many people wear printed dresses which is a shame because they look so great. I can't believe you have so many weddings to go to! I went through that about 3 years ago.

  11. Stylish and appropriate for a day wedding! Flip flops at a wedding? Just, no.

  12. Aee, love this take on the classic black and white print. Adding the red is perfection Sharon!

  13. Great choice on the dress and love the pop of color. Shorts at a wedding is so inappropriate but I can see why some people think that's acceptable maybe because it's in a bar? Unless the bride and groom specifically asked the guests to please dress accordingly for a day wedding then I could see how people can take it as come as you want.

    1. I should've noted it was more of a lounge...this wasn't at the local pub!

    2. Then that is inappropriate, just another proof that people don't have the common sense what a day time wedding attire should be. You and your hubby looked real cute.

  14. I love that dress. I wish it was still available! Ha-ha that is funny, I am guessing that is a Massachusetts thing to do. I am from there so I can say that- but from traveling and what I have seen we are a really laid back state (as far as our clothing))- and we think everyone else is like that until we venture out.

  18. OMG...jeans and shorts to a wedding? That is waaay under-dressed. Daytime weddings generally are less dressy but it's not casual attire, your dress was perfect for the occasion!
